Memorial Day Weekend As A Business

From a really terrific article over at Entrepreneur Magazine …..

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance, appreciation for sacrifice and profound thanks. To truly feel and appreciate the sacrifices we remember on Memorial Day, we need to make the remembrance personal. Too often, Memorial Day is distant appreciation and remembrance because we do not make the feelings of loss, sacrifice, and appreciation personal.

I immigrated to this country when I was a young child and do not have generations of legacy behind me in America. I do not have uncles or grandfathers that served in the US Armed forces but I’m no less a passionate American and I participate in activities that make me feel pride in being American. Remembering those that have fallen to afford this immigrant a pretty amazing life comes easy.

About a year ago I hired someone who had a son in the Army. Hearing about her family’s experience has certainly made me appreciate the sacrifices members of the armed forces have made and continue to make.

Memorial Day Weekend is usually a busy weekend for my business. This year I chose to close my business during the holiday. I must admit I have been in desperate need of some time off and I really couldn’t justify staying open and making my staff work,

I will be marching with my children and some friends in the town parade this year and I’m really looking forward to it.

What is your meaningful Memorial Day activity?
